Nowadays, few families use solid wood for decoration, and economic conditions do not allow it, and to be honest, solid wood also has the shortcomings of solid wood, such as easy cracking and deformation (precious wood is another). So what kind of board is good for custom cabinets and wardrobes?
Ordinary people basically use wood-based panels. But there are indeed many types and names of wood-based panels, and it is a little difficult for people who are new to decoration. For example: wood board, ecological board, multi-layer board, solid wood particle board, MDF, finger joint board, Hexiang board, Malacca deck, Eige board and so on. Some are product brand names, some are category names, and some are common names.
We can understand the artificial board as: substrate + surface treatment. The most common substrates are particleboard, MDF, plywood, wood board, and finger-joint boards; the most common surface treatments are melamine-impregnated adhesive film paper veneer, PVC lamination, baking varnish, and solid wood veneer. For example, solid wood particle board is particle board melamine veneer; ecological board generally refers to wood board melamine veneer. Solid wood plywood refers to plywood melamine veneer.
Let’s talk about cabinets first. Generally, there are wardrobes, bookcases, cabinets, bathroom cabinets, etc. The production methods are generally two types: on-site carpentry production and external custom-made merchants. Of course, you can also buy finished furniture, you can also buy it, etc. , more of the first two, and different production methods basically determine the optionality of the board.
In the on-site carpentry production, the mainstream use of wood panels, and now there are fewer direct use of wood panels, and most of them use "ecological panels", that is, melamine veneer wood panels. The biggest problem now is that good woodworkers are hard to find, and hand-sealing is really not as good as machine-sealing.
Custom wardrobe merchants use the most solid wood particle board and solid wood multi-layer board. The cabinet door is also made of MDF. MDF can be used for concave and convex shapes, but the first two cannot be used for modeling. In addition, there are also factories that specialize in custom-made solid wood furniture. Generally, few people can afford it, and solid wood is expensive.
Ordinary panel cabinets, I personally recommend the overall customization, factory machine production, workmanship and edge banding are better than manual work, there are relatively professional designers to provide design services, and after-sales are also guaranteed. These are advantages compared to woodworking. Of course, there are also people who have a wide range of ways. They can buy the boards themselves, find a local processing factory to cut the edges, and then find someone to install them on site. Many people say that the overall customization price is expensive, and this is also divided into brands. Well-known chain listed companies must be more expensive, and local brands will be relatively cheaper.
I think woodworking production requires two conditions to be met. One is that you really have to find an experienced and reliable carpenter who is responsible for the craftsmanship, and you must have a professional designer to give you a drawing. Without these two conditions, I think it is better not to do it yourself, unless the requirements for the workmanship, design, and aesthetics of the cabinet are not high.
Regarding the selection of the overall customized plate, according to my personal understanding:
Solid wood particle board, high industrial maturity, time-tested, cost-effective, stable physical properties, and average moisture-proof performance. Wardrobes, cupboards, bookcases can be used.
Solid wood multi-layer boards are used by some businesses to replace particle boards for differentiated competition. The price is higher, and the moisture resistance is better than particle boards. Cabinets and bathroom cabinets are recommended.
MDF is mainly used to make shaped cabinet doors.
As for the issue of environmental protection indicators, choose E1 or even E0 or F four-star rating for environmental protection indicators, and try to choose plates from big manufacturers and brands (note that it is a plate brand, not a custom brand).
Woxiang board is produced with MDI glue, which does not contain formaldehyde in theory. Those who care about environmental protection can consider it. Accurately speaking, Aigepan is a brand name. The imported environmental protection is reliable and the price is expensive. Stainless steel and aluminum alloy furniture are also new categories. I don't know much about them. In theory, metal has no formaldehyde problem.
